In 1928, a literary women society was created. They had had enough of systematically being left out of all the great gastronomic clubs, which at this time were reserved exclusively for men, such as the “Club des Cent” (still in existence) or the club of the “Grand Perdreaux” which no longer exists. With wit and humour they decided to create their own brotherhood or should we say “sisterhood”: “Les Belles Perdrix” (perdrix is the feminine of perdreaux partridges). They met once a month for a meal and the “Grand Perdreaux” were not completely excluded, they could be invited to these feasts.
The only philosophy was to make the most of life’s pleasures around the table (for this they edited their own recipe book). In fact it was a gathering of outstandingly intellectual aristocrats, poetesses and actresses who cultivated the joys of eating and conversation. So what could be a better name for Troplong Mondot and its guests?
